Containers for Cacti

There are many different containers you can plant your cacti in, the most common being unglazed terra cotta and plastic.

Terra cotta pots are inexpensive, available nearly everywhere,
and allow for surface transpiration and thus, quite a lot of water is lost via evaporation. Besides the weight of these pots, because of the evaporation, they can get very cold and chill the roots if the ambient air temperature isn't quite high. I have also found them to take up a considerable amount of space when compared to square plastic pots.

Plastic pots will hold water for longer periods of time, are lighter, and much more compact. In addition, they are easy to store and inexpensive.
